The children take the fathers first name plus 'son' or 'daughter' in whatever language they use which is why you get names like AdolffsSON and OlafsSEN etc. That's why it can be hard to trace lineage, because even siblings have different names. For example in Sweden I would've been ChristophersDOTTER and my brother would be ChristophersSON (Christopher's daughter and Christopher's son.)
